What To Do After an Auto Accident in Orlando

Immediately after a car accident it is important to do the following:

  • Seek medical treatment. Ideally, go to the emergency room via ambulance. Although you may not feel pain after an accident due to adrenaline, you will probably be in considerable pain the next day. If you don’t seek treatment immediately the insurance companies will try to use that against you to minimize your injuries and pay you as little as possible.

  • Seek legal counsel. It is important to have an attorney by your side as soon as possible.

  • Do not speak to the insurance companies without consulting with an attorney first.

  • Begin consistent treatment with a health care provider to help alleviate your pain. Do this as soon as possible. Make sure to tell your doctor everywhere that you are experiencing pain.

  • If you have to miss work, due to the pain from the accident, make sure to get a doctor’s note. You can be compensated for missed work by your PIP insurance, but we have to have documentation to support the claim.

  • Keep track of all of your mileage to and from your doctors. You can be compensated for your mileage by your PIP insurance.

  • Don’t miss any scheduled appointments with your physicians. If you do this repeatedly, the doctors will note this in their reports and the insurance companies will try to use this against you to suggest that your injuries aren’t as severe as we are alleging. They will try to pay you as little as possible and this will be one of their arguments against you.

  • Keep a diary of how this accident/injury has affected your activities of daily living. This will help your attorney illustrate to the insurance company the type of pain and suffering you have endured as a result of the accident.

  • Keep all of your paper work. You will undoubtedly be receiving a lot of paperwork relating to the accident. This will be helpful to your attorney down the line.

  • If you receive a subpoena to testify against the person who hit you for their traffic ticket, make sure to tell your attorney. Your attorney can go with you to court and may be able to get information during the hearing that could prove to be useful for the case down the line.

About Me

My photo
I started practicing law as a criminal defense attorney. It is in the criminal court room setting where I honed my ability to effectively and persuasively represent my clients zealously. My sister, Andrea Armas, and I started the law firm Jaspon & Armas, P.A. after our niece was tragically killed in a car accident. That event left a lasting impact on us, and it was at that moment when we decided to focus our practice on helping both the injured and their families. Having lived through such a traumatic experience we felt as if we could understand what those people are going through, and use our aggressive litigation skills to help get them the resources that they may be entitled to. I am a graduate of The Florida State University College of Law where I focused my elective courses on trial advocacy. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs with an emphasis in Political Science from The Florida State University. My hobbies include local politics, working out, playing mens league baseball, watching sports, spending time with family. I am married and have a beautiful little daughter.
